Boudoir photography is all about capturing a woman in a moment of beauty and confidence. At Burt Edwards Photography, it’s also about capturing your unique story. There are many reasons a woman may want to book a boudoir session. Are you proud of your body and want to capture it at its best? Do you want to share some flirtatious images with the one you love? Is a calendar or boudoir book something you’d like to put together for a special person in your life? Or do you just want to have timeless images taken of you at your most glamourous?

The one thing to remember is there are no rules, boudoir is whatever you want it to be. Whether the lighting his high-key or dark and moody, the wardrobe demure or dangerous, it should capture your personality and be something you are proud of. To effectively narrow down your search, think about what is important to you personally – after all, these are pictures you will have for the rest of your life, so they should capture you and your partner in a way that not only tells the story of your day, but the story of you as a couple. As a starting point, think of a keyword that might be important to you in your photography. For example, “creative,” or “vintage” and tag it on to your search query of “wedding photographer.” This will populate a variety of options in your area.

Read more about those that catch your eye, and check their credentials. Do they have experience with special event photography? Do they use multiple photographers to capture your wedding day from different perspectives? Does the photographer have a Facebook page you can look at to see the variety of their work, and the people who have reviewed them after they have received their wedding pictures? This can be the most enlightening piece of your research – what people who have used them say about the pictures themselves and the customer service or experience of working with the photographer.

Once this step is complete, narrow your options down to a few photographers and call them to set up a consultation. Most photographers do this for free, and a great photographer will use this opportunity to get to know you and your partner, and what you’re looking for in a photographer and for your wedding pictures. Come prepared with questions and special requests, and ask for very clear pricing. This can range anywhere from _____ to ______. Know how long you want the photographers to take pictures at your event, and what you’d like in terms of an album or digital print access. All of these things can make a difference in cost.

Finally, pick a photographer with consistently good reviews and someone whose personality will fit in with your wedding party and you as a couple. They’ll be with you for almost your entire wedding, so your gut instinct of who you are comfortable with will go a long way in this decision.
